Ok, no growth on all 3 fruit of my plant today.
I know i keep bringing this up, but what causes all 3 pumpkins to stop growing?

i mean if i water the plant, something uses up the water, correct?

OK what seeds did you plant? When were the pollinated? If you did not plant AG seeds they grow to about 75lbs and stop.

for one thing your planting area is way to small for even a field pumpkin plant much less a atlantic giant.

not knowing whats in your soil is why no one can tell you what may have cause your pumpkins to stop growing

personally from what photos i have seen on your diary the fruit never really got a chance to develop. possibly caused by some excess in your soil.

also you combine trying to grow three atlantic giants on a plant the size of yours and trouble is just around the corner.

you need a bigger patch if not at your house then at someone elses or you will run into this problem every year

yes, i will be getting a couple loads of nice soil next year to spread out around the patch.

next year, i will only grow 2 fruit on the plant, not sure i have wnough room for 2 plants, maybe if one of them grow partly on the grass area.

thanks.

first year = cant complain.

i bought the seeds from a store like walmart or homedepot.

They came in a pack that said Atlantic Giant on them.

They were pollinated the first week of July.

Get U about 500 Sq.ft. of good deep fertile well drained loose soil... Get this done over the next 8 months while reading on here. Contact some growers on here who have pumpkins you like and request some seed from them. If you stay at this long enough you will see one take off!!

Keep in mind, too, Jeremy that water is just a carrier of nutrients. It is not a nutrient itself.

What I believe are the basics - even store bought seed got me to 300LBS last year.

1. Get good seed.
2. 200sq. ft. minumum for one plant.
2. Plant off and away from any grass.
3. Control of the vine borer.

I used seed in a packet as well from my local nursery. They are Atlantic Giant from Valley seed. I know they arent genetically superior but Im a first year grower so just learning how to grow and techniques are whats important. I think if you can do a nice 200-300 pound pumpkin on packet seed then you know you have good techniques and when you get the better seed you'll be better prepared to bring out its maximum potential. Its like riding horses, start with the easy ones, hone your skills and move up to the more refined ones when your ready.

Stormrat control of the Vine Borer is crucial..right you are.

how do you know if you have vine borers?

please explain.

Vine borers will cause your plant to have sudden and serious wilt. You will also notice if you look closely usually by the stump a saw dust like substance and a rot. Little grubs will borer their way through the vines...not a good thing. If you had them your plants would be destroyed usually by now. Ive had to remove several vines this year because of them.

I had borers in two places: At the base of a stem (inside). The leaf turned yellow. Second, the junction of a secondary vine and the main. This caused several of the first leaves on the secondary to turn light green and wilt. If you get them out fast, you may save the vine.

I dont know if I have any borers left Im hoping I dont. I figured if they were in my plant they probally would be dead by now..my plants that is.
