Hi, I tried growing pumpkins this year, even though I'm not (yet) a gardener. I certainly wasn't trying to grow immense pumpkins, in fact I would have been happy if they ended up the size of bowling balls. If only there were a site called LittlePumpkins.com, that would be the place for me! I really have good memories of pumpkins from when I was a child, and now that I have a child of my own, I wanted to see what I could do!

Unfortunately I live in an urban environment and don't have a real garden. So I decided to grow them in pots. That may have been my first problem.

I planted the seeds in late May, and by mid-July, here's what I had:

It all seemed to be going well - lots of flowers, but - no pumpkins! Is that simply because the pots couldn't have provided enough depth for the roots?

Unfortunately things then took a turn for the worse. The leaves started drooping, and going yellowy-brown. I should mention that where I live I get a lot of sun and heat, so that shouldn't have been the problem. I also had a routine of daily watering that hadn't changed. I was wondering, is this fungus?

Given my constraints, what do you suggest I do next year? Obviously I should be spraying with pesticide or fungicide?

Thanks!

I must apologize, I somehow missed that there is a forum specific to New Growers. If there is a moderator who can move my questions to that forum, it would be perfect.

The problem is pumpkins are not good growers in a pot.

Your going to need a bigger pot. You could try Jack be little pumpkins.
