I've got some cracks on my 1092. I've posted a pic on my diary. they both look shallow and the one on the left looks dry. This pumpkin is still growing a little about 1.5 inches circ. a day. Our county fair is in 16 days. Should I go ahead and harvest this pumpkin to stop its growth. Or let it grow and take a chance on the cracks staying shallow?

i did not look at your photo but shallow cracks where the stem meets the fruit are common. that is usually the thickest part of the pumpkin so as long as they are shallow you need not worry.

just check it every day to be sure it does not get worse

Coop, listen to pap, I developed splits like this one on my 1180 back on July 21st. There is a photo of it on my diary. At the time there were only 2 splits and over the course of the next few days I had 5 splits. I did treat them several times with Captan but the size of the splits never really got bigger and eventually dried and have never had any more problems with them. Don't let it freak you out! I lost sleep for nothing.

you can always disinfect the area if you wish with a 1 part bleach or peroxice to 9 parts water
the only complaint i have with captan is depending on where you use it its tough to get it to dry ---- sometimes we use a fan also on any stem spots we have trimed and are treating

sun is going down and i checked the splits, they both look dry. They are'nt any bigger. So I'm going to mix up some bleach and water in the morning ( this side gets morning sun) and disinfect each spot. Thanks pap and Mark. pap I'm hoping that you will do the booklets I sure could use one!!! Thanks for the help
