I wasn't happy with the vine position of my largest pumpkin so i began to move it. I was just about done propping it up when i slipped and CRACK! The stem split. The thing I'm wondering about is will it live? Most of the stem splits i have seen are along the length of the stem sort of in its "ribs". My split goes perpendicular to this and cuts along several stem ribs. The split is about half an inch long and very shallow. Will it hang in there?

It could hang in there. Ive found out through some helpful folks on this site how to try to fix it. Paint daconil all over the split and cover it real good. It seems to heal up splits. I have a nasty split on one of my stems due to bad position. Im gonna have to cut the main past the pumkin tonight and just ride it out. Good luck

it will survive, if you have a pumpkin after the split, i am not sure how well it will do as far as growth, but all will survive
