my biggest one last year (916) was grown that way. I've also had a 771, and a few others that way. my wife's 777 was also at the end of a vine. I have 2 that way this year.

I believe thers been a lot of massive pumpkins that were grown that way. It seems that most of the growth comes from behind the pumpkin.

My 733 lber. last year was grown at the end of the mainvine. Not by choice, but because the end of the main got fried. It was on the 1233.5 Reiss.

Wiz, I have a number of pics of it on my 2006 grower's diary, here on BP.com. It is the third largest 1233.5 Reiss offspring so far, on the AGGC. The 901.5 Leonard, and the 763.6 Gipe were heavier. I should note that mine went over 25% heavy. When I cut it open, it had very thick walls on the blossom end, and top of the pumpkin.

I believe a lot of growers actually limit the size of their pumpkin because their too worried about keeping the main going past the pumpkin. Stress and what not sometimes having the vine pulling on the fruit.

I remember Bill Foss grew a 992 lber off my 1125 plant this way, main vine was terminated right after pumpkin. Maybe you have seen his exploding pumpkin video? That is the one.
