Has anyone experienced problems with rot on the bottom of their pumpkin when growing on styrofoam and nothing else (no sand) just pumpkin on styrofoam? Thanks Bumkin

No problems here, I've been doing it since 2004. The thing is, is that the bottom seems to grow concave. I think it has a hard time sliding on it as it grows.
I keep sayin I'm gonna switch to sand...

This is my first year using styrofoam. I put sand on top of it and the fruits are easy to slide, sometimes to easy sliding down hill.

Well there was that one time that the mice made a nice little nest in the cavity of the pumpkin with the styrofoam. They had a good idea...and were set for the winter. To bad the pumpkin was no good. Use Plywood or put a window screen underneath to prevent this. Most growers use millwill fabric.
