Subject: measuring a fruit blossom up..

I,ve got a pumpkin, layng down blossom up, How do i measure this properly... if i grew it standing up, (its started somewhat of a wheel) measurements would differ, the side to side measurements that is,,,anyone?

I would think that OTT's are just that no matter what,,,if someone shares thier daileys with you on similar shaped fruit you might get a better "guesstimate" on what you have going.

Cook first thing you are measuring mass to find out the total inches for estimated weight. With that in mind disreguard how the fruit is growing and concentrate on the widest circumferance of the fruit. Imagine if you were looking staight down from above your fruit and follow that line parallel to the ground. Side to side and end to end measurements should intersect at the tallest point of the fruit (always bring your tape staight down to the ground at the widest point and don't follow under side contour). Remember always measure in the same place to get accurate growth rates, some growers use a sharpie to mark lines to follow each time they measure circumferance. Odd shaped fruit can be difficult to get accurate measurements on but this method is the way Len Stelpflug intended measurements to be gathered for his chart.
