Subject: Protecting stump area?

My stump area seems to be getting brown. Alot fo the leaves are dieing and the stump seems to be drying out somewhat?
what can i do to help this?

Some soil fungi like fulsarium cause wilting- worse during the light/hot hours but gradually getting worse. No cure for that one- destroy affected plants ...
found this with a web search....

leave the stump alone, it sounds fine, if it is not oozing you are good to go, dont bury it

no it is not oozing, leaves around it are dieing.......if they are brown and broken, should i cut them of or does it not matter?

This time of year the oldest leaves start dying. By the end of the season the leaves around the stump will be very brown and dead. If you can get to them without damaging the plant or root structure - then i like to cut the worst ones away. Rotting leaf material opens you up for fungus and other problems - such as reduced airflow. Pictures would be helpful to determine if the leaves are just old and tired or if you have a problem
