I have a pumpkin that measured 242 OTT today. I discovered a rotten spot about as big around as a half dollar on the top of the pumpkin. I suspect it is the result of a scratch made by yours truly a week or so ago. It doesn't appear to be to bad yet. The discoloration is a light brown and even though the spot is softer than the rest it is not mushy yet. Is this pumpkin done for or is there something I can do to try and save it? It is growing at an incredible rate. Hate to lose it.

clean out the soft spot

spray the spot with a disinfectant- bleach, peroxide,or put some captan powder on the spot and get it dried out

let the sun get at the spot to help heal it over -- a fan would help

I found a wrinkled soft spot on mine last night. I also had an area about the size of a quarter that was white. We had a
very hot day yesterday, I don't know if there is a connection. I scooped out the soft area and poured on a 10% bleach solution and left the pumpkin uncovered. I will most likely use captan as well.
If this pumpkin survives it will be some ugly!
