Wow, both of those are great. I wish someone could get one of those on video when it happens. I wonder if it makes a sound?

What the,,,,,! I have never seen nothing like that before, wonder what causes that? Do you think that the inside of the fruit is starting to ferment(sp?). When making wine alot of pressure builds up untill it explodes.
Did you smell kinda a sweet smell after that exploded Dan?
I have had a pumpkins insides start to ferment on me before, and I could smell the alcohol type smell when I cut it open. Smells like wine.

Same thing happened to me in 2003. By the middle of August I blew up at least 7 pumpkins on my 845 Bobier. http://bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=12094

I am very curious as to what causes this. The only thing I can think of is an abrupt drop in temperature which would make the pumpkin expand. But this seems so unlikely.

A few years ago I had 3-4 that I really poured the 0 0 60 to, I couldnt beleive how big they got in such a short time, it was like double growth in one week, then one evening I went and checked on them and it looked like a steam roller had visited my patch, they went from 250 pounds to flat as a pancake in one day..haha..

Sure Wiz you may use the pic. lol Well, i hadn't watered the plant for a few days.Nothing drastic in the ferts either. The only thing i can think of is the temps. In Ohio we went through some cool nights. Lows in the high 50s to low 60s.So i dont know if this had something to do with it or not. Andy, ill be growing this seed again, maybe i can get it to weigh off next year. I have to say your explosion looks worse than mine.

my pic was taken a day or so after it initially blew, i wanted to see how grotesque it would get. nothing crazy with mine to trigger it either. the one back in 2000 did it to every single fruit on the whole plant. every one exploded.

Have you people tried duct tape? Caulking? Epoxy Resin? I'm sure it would clear it up.
