Why would a 990 Bax selfed 3x be throwing a greenie?

According to your email, both sides have 356.6 Dill '85 way back in the pedigree... I have some hypothesis that the non-green GPs can be showing several different dominant/semidominant Orange/yellow/white genes... Many GPs probably have a combination of these non-green dominant genes - but are carrying a 'masked rec. green'...

Say the 990 Bax was only heterozygous for ONE non-green gene, and carrying one rec. green.... X self - offspring would be a 25:50:25 split - with 25% carrying both non-green, 50% carrying one non-grene, 25% carrying no non-green. so 75% of offspring would be non-green... If you happened to plant a heterozygous offspring, self it again - you'd have the same statistics, and again.. if you planted a heterozygous offspring, self it again - same stats...

I just happened to get the 25% homozygous green offspring.. Which is GOOD - since I needed more homozygous rec. plants for future study...

So we now have another GS line... Since I'm selfing this one - as well as crossing it on the Green 300 Pecks..

BTW... if the 990 Bax was heterozygous for 2-or-more dominant non-green genes... Then getting a descendant with NO non-green (AKA - showing rec. green) would be well under a 9% chance...
