I posted under pests and disease but had little response, (sorry desperate times call for desperate measures;) Can i spray admire on the underside of leaves and vines (will it be absorbed?) Or will it only work with a soil drench? Any info much appreciated.

Any plant cell which is exposed to systemic insecticides (like Merit) will absorb a certain amount through it's cell wall..These pesticides work through ingestion, so ONLY insects that Munch on the plant are killed. It IS a faster method to use foliar application in order to get the systemic into the above-ground tissues... I utilized both granular (root/soil application) and foliar spray - with the Merit this year... No swarm of SVB has been noted as of yet (unlike last year - when I used contact pesticides...)

. Certain insecticides are 'contact' insecticides (diazinon, triazicide, seven, etc..) are NOT systemic/absorbed. These work by direct contact on insects. Kill everything - good and bad.

The answer is yes lookajook! However you don't have to spray underneith. A general over top application will work fine. The rate is 2cc/ gal water. Repete every 10 days. I do a soil drench in late May, then apply foliar insecticides as required.

No problem - Admire will leaf absorb unless the leaf is getting "old".

What is the active ingredient in 'Admire'? I've never heard of it, nor seen it on the local store shelves... Thus, my generalized answere (depending on if it's contact or systemic)

Admire is imidacloprid, just like merit, only labeled for veggies.

Does anyone know of a place to purchase Admire on the 'net? I looked around and didn't see it anywhere. I don't have a good ag store without 30 miles of where I live. Thanks!
