Are there any rules, how long are you aloud to grow them? Halloween? until your local weigh off? can you grow one all year & would that be considered a record if it kept growing? thanks

I still have one growing from 1992. The leaves are shot but it still is gaining. Hehe, couldn't resist. Most pumpkins stop at 60-70 days.

From what I've seen and heard, usually these pumpkins have a growth period of 70-90 days from pollination(maybe 100 days in some regions). Most try to time them for a weighoff, such as state fairs, and early Oct. weighoffs. Here in MN, a hard fall frost will shut the plants down, unless you can set up some type of protection for the plant. The largest daily weight gains are typically from days 20-50, but with a healthy plant and good weather, a lot of pounds can be packed on in Sept.(from 60-90 days or so). If a world record is grown, I don't think it matters when it is weighed. But a certified scale and a number of credible witnesses would be needed for verification, I think.

Fog...I'm sure your wieghoff in Minnesota will let you grow it past the contest date...just tell them what wieght you think you will have when you finally decide to stop growing it and if you you're assumed future wieght is more than the others' future assumed wieght then you will win.

tricks or treats! Halloween is over and I missed it!
You blockhead! You kept me up all night waiting for the
Great Pumpkin and all that came was a beagle!"
