When we pollinated one of our pumpkins we noticed that one of the ovaries was deformed. All the other segments of the ovary were normal. Now that the pumpkin is the size of a large beach ball we noticed that the deformed ovary is attached to the pumpkin skin and the pumpkin is dimpling in a few inched down from it. The blossom scare is also much larger. We have two more pumpkins down the line and the next one was a perfect five lober. Should we cull the larger pumpkin because of the blossom end or just keep watching and make a decision later? The pumpkins are five days apart and both growing well.

I made the same decision to cull it off and move down vine, no need wasting anymore time in my case, you may want to consider the same since you have two close by.

It's hard to be brave sometimes and do the right thing. I think tomorrow I will cull it..it's a bit of a worry with the dimple under the attachment.

We all hate those decisions but they must be made. SNIP!

culling a pumpkin with deformed segments is the right thing to do.
just be sure you have something else farther down the pipe line that is set.
chances are once the pumpkin with a deformed segment starts to grow it will have a large indentation in the fruit from a seed cavity thats not developing properly

So good to know, tomorrow it will go. We have two more pumpkins down the line and a perfect five lober next that is growing well.
