Im kindoff wondering the same thing. Tonight I have a tough decision I have one pumpkin on the main its about 12 days old. Then on a secondarie I have a lot smaller one. I just want to grow one per plant but Im having trouble culling that one.

I culled a bowling ball size pummpkin off the 500 Wallace for a lemon size pumpkin 5' farther down the vine with better position and stem, it was sure hard.....Guess I find out later if I made the right choice...

It seems by what some of the experienced growers are saying here on BP.com that we all need to make the decision soon (if not already) as to what pumpkin we will choose to be the only one left on the vine. I find it really hard to decide especially if the pumpkin isn't the size of beach ball yet. What should be done? Cull down to two and keep measurments on them both, wait until they are both basket ball size and cull the slower grower? What do you do?

Sooner or later, you're going to have to grow a set of "stones"! It's never easy making that final decision. Just be sure to examine each fruit very well before making the final cut. Personally, I cut down to the final fruit on or before July 20th.....assumming everything was pollinated by July 9th.

Never had one abort yet that was at least 44" in circ. That is our magic number for culling the others. Also, if you drip some hot wax from a candle onto the stem after you make the cut it will stop the bleeding.

44 is a nice number that makes me feel much better about what I did this past Friday. LOL
Thank you Larry & Stan!
