how long in length do people let these grow. is there a lenght that is to long in which it does not help or may hurt the plant?

i cut mine at about 8-10' and burried them....the ones that are coming out of the main vine 15' down from the stump are only like 3-4 feet long though.
i say bury them at 8-10'
but this is my first year growing these beasts so i am just a newbie....

12-14' seems to be the longest most growers go.
