we are now in that time of the season where all the hard work, research, extra effort, dirty knees and disguarded stinky patch clothing really pays off.
the pumpkins have been chosen and are well on their way
dead ended plants will plump up their leaves and pass everything along to the fruit
the beetles, boarers, aphids, etc should be dead from those sestemic sprays
nothing to do now but keep the plant healthy, cut an occasional tap root, give her a couple folliar sprays of soil soup and sea crop, keep her shaded during the day and warm at night, chart your progress weekly
this is what we competition giant pumpkin growers work toward each and every year
our best to anyone who ever had to scrub dirt off of there knees

I must be doing things right, pap, because you described it to a tee.
I was just telling Lisa yesterday that all we're basically left with now is luck.
Thanks for the tidings.

How come my vines are still growing like crazy? I "deadhead" the "up vine" secondarys, yet they keep sprouting tertiarys even after everthing has been removed. My "down pumpkin" secondarys are still growing rapidly as well. It's a never ending job!

Pap....you're the greatest! When I see your name on the board, I always pay attention. Thanks for sharing so much info with us. I've worn holes in the knees of my jeans - does that count? Hope everyone gets what they're wishing and working for!!!.....Glenna

Stan, have you had enough rain over the past week? BC and Wash. State have been really hard hit with cold temps and lots of rain.

Dirty knees, I planted some seeds in a poison ivy area, after pulling some weeds (poison ivy) bare handed and having poison ivy for 2 weeks I decided to aim the vines out into the lawn, thank god for calamine lotion.

RAIN! Set a record....well, in the last ten years anyway! We've had over an inch since Friday. I'm really concerned that if it warms up too quickly, my pumpkin will "pop".

I here ya Stan. My soil is saturated with water. Won't be watering the garden any time soon. Since we had all the rain my vine tips are all growing staright up. Sure noticed how brittle they are when we got all that rain. Looking forward to the sun again.

Thanks Paps, I was just thinking the same thing over this weekend, that all the hard work, thinking and planning has finally come to watchin it grow. Hope everyone arrives at their goal for this season. Grow'em BIG
