It finally rained and the question I have is can the mud splashed on the leaves, especially the young ones, act as a sun screen?? Going to hit 100 dgrs here the next few days. Will this help protect ?? Thanks !

It might help with the sun. I've considered that aspect myself. But if the soil harbors any pathogenic fungi, it can also mean the end of the fruit or just some minor disfigurement. I used to have this problem with field pumpkins. Fungicides & pulp mill fabric put an end to this problem.
