I am a first time grower. One of my pumpkins is growing birdbath shape. The main vine is under the pumpkin. I keep digging under the stem to relieve weight stress. Is there anything else I can do to prevent the stem and vine from being crushed. Does this shape pumpkin ever become a heavyweight?

try to prop it so you do not grow on top of the vine, some have been grown this way, but it is very dicey. i hope you have some vine slack. Take a pole or something, drive it in the ground next to your pump, and wedge something between the post and the pump.
good luck

Nels, you need to get that pumpkin off the ground on to a pallet or on some sand. Have you cut the tap roots? Do you have slack in the main? You need to lift it up, prop it up to get the stress off the main. Good luck and grow em big. CG

had one in 2005 that grew just like what your talking about, I used foam blocks (green floral foam) and propped it up to keep it off the vine worked great for me. Bryan
