I thought experienced everything that could happen to pumpkins until what occured on Friday the 13th of July. The dog across the street got loose and came over into my patch. Started playing with my softball size pumpkins like they were a ball. Basically scratched the hell out of them. Anyone have a similiar story?

We had a sons birthday party at the end of August about 5 years ago. When one of the moms came to pick up her son she brought her rugged little (big for his age) son with her. After about 20 minutes of chit chat we had found the younger brother was missing from the front lawn. We put a search party out and sure enough this little "sweetheart" was riding our largest pumpkin like it was a bucking Bull, jumping all around and having the time of his life. That night the pumpkin seemed fine, but by the next morning it had mysteriously had a major blossum end split.

I could only blame myself for this but a valuable lesson was learned. These pumpkins seem to take me to school every year.
