Far and away the absolutely most brutal job that I hate is Weed Whacking!
I went no till on a couple of 1,000 sq.ft. areas and it has been a weed filled mess up until today. I finally whacked them all down out on the perimeter of my plants. I had been trying to stay ahead of them with a shovel by skimming the surface a couple of yards ahead of the vines. Hell I even sprayed round up too and yet they came back again.
As I type this posting my hands are still vibrating from my Stihl trimmer that I had to rev to the max to chop them down. Covered in sweaty green shrapnel I staggered into the shower for quick cleansing and a couple of brown cold beers.

Yeah weeding sucks in the begining I had to weed a lot but now its not so bad. I just use a garden hoe every weekend and go to work. I dont like to go in the patch that often if I can help it just to bury what I can. I used this stuff called weed preventer early on in the season and mixed it in the soil. It didnt work for nothing exept taking some money from my wallet.

My farmer buddy is doing a little test on field pumpkins with a product called Select. It is supposed to kill grasses in pumpkins without affecting the plant. Stay tuned.

watering!! No rain for weeks and the patch is getting reallly full, so hose management is the job that's getting to me. I'm afraid I'll snap something that shouldn't be snapped.

Gilmore I like the cleaning up of beer cans post. I have to do that on a daily basis. My girlfreind laughs at me I sit by my patch at the house and enjoy some cold ones. I tell her its like having some drinks with my buddies. Really the worst job in the patch is burying vines. I try my best and try to use surronding dirt but I hate to mess with all the pumpkins roots. Ive found cutting tendrils off anchors the plant to the ground and its tap roots hit the dirt fast.
