Take a look at the past World Records...What do you see I see pumpkins that are tall, some that are wide, some that are long, some with thick walls, and somethat go heavy and some with a combination of these.
When you look at the 1469 Checkon can you belive it was estimated at 1700 something pounds thats huge, I belive Larry some where said it had the urge to keep growing bigger. Then look at the 1502 Wallace it looks to be a tall, wide, and long pumpkin with thick walls that went heavy.
What I am trying to say is I feel there is no limit with these beasts of a pumpkin. With the right breeding you will forever and ever continue to grow bigger and bigger.
What do you need to grow that world record. I feel you need a pumpkin thatwill grow wide, tall, and long, with Thick walls, and the goes heavy, that grows fast gaining 40 to 50 pounds a day possibly 60.Its a fight we have to take to grow a world record in the process they may split. But Theres Always Next Year.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Please go ahead and post what you think a pumpkin needs to be the World Record. This is my advice. I will rethink what I typed over and add in more or possibly fix something I said that I fell is not what a World Record needs later.
Thanks!

I'm not sure about all that but why do your pumpkins have money around them. Did you breed a pumpkin that produces money? That would be awesome.

There is a limit to everything in life...including size of pumpkins.
Jordan, just grow a pumpkin bigger than you did last year and then you can be proud that you've had a good season. Once you've got a few years under your belt of growing, you will be getting better and better.
As far as world records, don't think that I am anywhere near a world record but would like one day to take the BC crown away from Jake van Kooten....he just keeps growing them bigger so I better start getting better soon!!

I hope he used pennies that were made before 1983. After 1983 they are made up of 98% zinc.

For my World record pumpkin I will 1st need the clones I have growing in my secret laboratory to age another 20 years.. Then, I will have an army of TUGS to tend to my patch, Sorry but I cannot tell you where I got viable DNA to create these monsters but they all "Took". With this workforce and genetics I will most likely have all I need to Shatter World Records every year!!

the formula for a world record is an easy one. finding a fruit and plant to produce this formula is easy. based on a pollination between 6-28 and 7-5
1. minimum 500 pound est by august 1st 2. add 700 more pounds by september 1st (1,200 est ) 3. tack on another 200 lbs in sept 4. pray you go 10% over come weigh off day
* some day and it may be this year, a grower will get a fruit like larrys to tap 1,600 plus and it will weigh what it tapes. personally, i think its a real reach to even get what ron and i had last year. thats a lot of pumpkin to be grown in a 90 plus day period. yes you need skills but, lady luck was riding on our shoulders as well. i wish everyone could experience what these championship growers have felt - just once. the excitment is something you will remember the rest of your life

Nice little post here Jordan. I myself don't think we will hit anything past the 2000lb mark , the walls on these pumpkins just dont seem thick enough to hold that much weight I feel, I think we wont see anything past the 1700 lb mark personally, but I never thought we would see one in the 1500's ether. These AG pumpkins are so unpredictable.

I think, if 1700 lbs. is broken, it will be many years in the future. I think a nice round fruit could support large weight. Think of a ping pong ball....very thin plastic, but round.

Genetically speaking, I think crossing two relatively unrelated, highly inbred lines, could produce a world record cross.

Doug now that you mention it more rounder fruit could possibly hold more weight. Also good point on the genetics point of view.
Brooks I think the wallas will just keep getting thicker and thicker possibly well the outside continues to get bigger and bigger as well.
Thanks!

Jordan,,, you're young and have plenty of time to experiment and learn ! Don't put all your pennies in one basket. This years records could come from differant crosses.

I have looked at alot of the bigger pumpkins, they all look underdeflated, like a balloon, you know it can handle more air, I'm weighting for the biggest pumpkin to start looking like a perfect looking pumpkin.

Bigger pumpkins will come with bigger knowledge and bigger toys, you just have to watch your pennies. Jordon I hope that makes cents! :>)

This is interesting. I am new at this so take this for what it is. It seems the world record has been broken pretty handily each year so far(except for a few years when the record held). Maybe there is a plateau coming up and it will take an innovative new approach or new hybrid vigor to push these things further. I think these pumpkins have some more "size" left in them. Pap does make a good point in the amount of growing days and needed weight gain category. Who knows, but it is fun to watch!
