Anyone notice on there plants that the vines are slowing now and the pumpkins are growing? Mine have started that phase and I think this is a good time for a fertilizer switch for the pumpkin now. Whats everyone switch to at this point? I start with the nutri cal more often now along with the seaweed and kelp, I'm still afraid of using the 0-0-60 because of what it did to me about 4 years ago.

Whats everyones plan at this stage of your plants growth?

Brooks, I'm at the same stage. Since the pumpkins started putting on size my vines have all but stopped. Except for those darn tertiary vines. Those things drive me nuts.

Brooks I am at this stage too and I have switched to zero fertilizer for at least two or more weeks now. I will probably resume a light neptunes fish/ seaweed and additional kelp if the weather permits but the plants aren't showing me that they necessarily need it.

Me 3... I have one plant that it's striking. Behind the fruit real tall large leaves and in front real short small leaves. Its all terminated behind the fruit already as it has already filled its space.

milford, CT,

My wife says go fishing during the day and let the plants do what they do best....don't over manage them. So far I agree with her since her PB is 200 lbs better than mine.
Seriously...a lot of time we do more to slow the fruit than help by being impatient...I think that was her point. Mark

I'm at the same phase here Brooks with the 1177 at 150 pounds. I'm going with a weekly dose of Ureamate 5-10-27 through drip irrigation.

That tap system at pap's house is like holy water.. I am hoping the couple of beers I drank from it last year will equate to my pumpkin salvation in 2007 and get me over the 1000 pound mark!

As for the plant, my tips burned off form over half of my plants lead clusters with the 98 degree weather we had for 3 days straight. I was lucky to have such early vigor and get a decent sized plant before this happened. Pumpkins are definitely picking up pace...

When do the vines slow down??? I've got two with rapidly gaining 'kins - and the darn plants are growing faster than ever! The measurement gains on these two 'kins are far surpassing my previous years' mearsurements at just 16-17 days! But these plants WANT MORE 'kins!!! (one is rapidly putting weight on at least 5 kins on different 15-20' secondaries!)

Looks like I'll have several 1,000 sq/ft plants this year!

Haven't laid down any N for 3 weeks, just Mg/S/Ca supplementation......
