We just had one of our main vines blow as well as four vines on our secondaries. Three are on one plant and two are on two different plants. We had really hot weather last week and now it is cold a foggy. What causes the main to blow? We've never had this problem in the past.

Have you had any substantial rain in the last few days?

The only thing that has changed in the last three days is the temps have gone from 90 degrees to 65 degrees and fog has come in. We never even got sunshine today. I'm watering 15 min with soaker hoses every other day and have been for a month or so. Does that sound like too much water? Should I cut back?

Are you using AgroK? Specifically, have you recently applied Symbex 4X? I had some blow outs a couple of years ago a couple of days after using it. I've talked with other growers who have had the same problem.

I'm not using AgroK. Just liquid seaweed and fish emultion once a week. What else can blow outs be caused by? Should I quit watering for a few days?

Creek, thats weird, I have experienced blow outs on occasion after terminating some of my vines, have you started terminating your vines? I'm not sure what causes it but it has happened to me when I start terminating.

No, I hadn't started terminating vines. The first two secondaries blew first then the main and now today two more secondaries all on the same plant. I haven't watered in two days and will hold off atleast another one. We might have thunder storms today, really unheard of here in California this time of year. It's still foggy too. I have two pumpkins pollinated before the break and will train a secondarie as the main.

I had the same thing happen 2 yrs back. I believe, I was using to much nitrogen. I was using urea 0-0-48.

I think that it comes down to something happening which causes signigficantly more "nutrients" to be available in the plant, causing a spurt of growth resulting in a vine sticking up in the air with too much weight on the end...and you get a "blowout." With that in mind, if you keep things "steady" in your patch this probably won't happen.
