Anyone ever had a slow starting fruit in the first ten days and have a decent pumpkin? I am at day 12, and have only reached 22 inches, but it is growing every day. My fruits on the 1233 Reiss and the 1048 Companion are everywhere, but the problem is they are very very small when they start (smaller than normal open females) and have puttered along as the days go by.
Just curious as to whether many have had luck with slow starting sets. I know there is a 20 inch at ten day minimum most "grow" by, but at day 10, I was only at 15 inches and am now at 22 inches on day 12.

Rocky, Things have been slower than normal up here for me as well. I have never had such slow growth rates. Plants look sweet though. It will be interesting to see how this all turns out. John

Rock, Same for me in southern Ontario. Larget one so far this year was 21.5" at day 10! I guess its the weather. I am told there have been very large pumpkins grown with low 10 measurements.

We grew the 1233 Reiss last year and I just checked the measurement at 12 days out and it was 23". We got ours to 644lbs with day 27 through 40 averaging 16.38 pounds gain per day. We live in a cool coastal climate in California (about a mile from the beach) so I bet you could do better with the Reiss with your environment.

My first year of growing these A.G.'s, I ended up with a 615 lber. I think it was 16" or 16. 5" at day 10. The top growth rate I measured was like 16 lbs./day for that pumpkin. It went about 6 % heavy.

I am at day 12, and measured tonite at 24 inches. I am starting to pick up, so feeling a bit better, but the low ten day suprised me. I will reup my numbers and compare at day 20 and 30... I have 2 more further up the main but want this one.

Hello Rock-
A/L spreadsheet shows the smallest size 1000+ was 19", many others in the low 20's. A couple of the 1200+ fruit started out in the low 20's as well. Based on the spreadsheet, anything 19" and over on day ten has serious potential- day 20 measurements become much more telling.

What is the A/L spreadsheet you are referencing, I would love to see it. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm a a second year grower, and hadn't had anything to reference before. Also, how are the measurements being taken? Thanks!!
