Thought I saw a message about this before, but I can't seem to find it now that I need the answer...
What are thoughts about a secondary coming off the rear of the main stump? Will encouraging this to grow (without letting a pumpkin grow on it) provide growth to my pumpkins growing on my main? Or will it suck up energy?
Thanks!

I dont believe it will benefit the pumpkin much at all. I always cut mine them bury them deep. I think this actually encourages more beneficial growth.

I grew a 511 lb pumpkin on a rear vine a couple of years back that had only 4 secondaries growing from it.
