How many seeds do you plant when you start the season, say you want to have 3 good plants this season, how many seeds do you plant, 5, 10, 20 and then weed the one's out you don't want. I went thru alot of seeds to get my plants growing, some did'nt come up, some died, somne just looked unhealthy.

This year to arrive at 3 I started 12. But I usually give lots of started plants away & this year was no different.
Two : one seems to be a good ratio.

I went thru alot of seeds due to being a begginer, stupidiy, overwater, filed all the edges off the seed, planted to deep & playing with, uncovering.

My patch size called for 3 plants so I started 3 seeds. One did not germinate so I had to start a 4th. This one is a week behind the other 2 but has caught up nicely. I know I should probably start more but I just can't bring myself to start other good seeds that may not get planted. There is nobody else really close to my location who grows so I have nobody else to give them to and absolutely no more room to plant the extras.

Mark, you seem to have nailed my theory, most (90% or more) seeds seem to sprout if treated properly...why waste good quality seeds??? Peace, Wayne

We started seeds several times, May 1st, May 15th, May 25th, finaly got some past the frost, thought we were safe and BAM Tuesday morning June 26 kiss my a$$ if it didn't frost! Not a punkin killing frost mind you just a tomato plant leaf cupping frost.... still sucked, so I guess we planted twenty various seeds to get here (four)....Just starting to throw females here!

I usually try for 5-6 for my three plants. Problem is you burn through good seeds. I usually start some of my own seeds as the backups just in case. I can always give them away to neighbors.
