Anyone know why these vines are spliting?? Both the main & side vines are doing this. Now it is growing on a manure pile which was about 9 months old. Maybe too much .... nitrogen??? No other admenments have been added. It flowers fine and i have 4 fruits set. Its just for fun, an extra backup plant, my 907.5 kent 06, but i would like to know why in case it happens for real on a main plant. I had several of the same seed as backups & there were no indication of this when grown in the main patch. Thanks ! http://bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=67250 http://bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=67251

Are these vines being staked? It looks like they're not. Some genetic lines are prone to "skying". If a sky-vine isn't controlled on the decent it might do this.

I cover the vines and use stakes on some. doesn't seem to mater. 1 side does this about every other day. Won't have any to deadhead soon. they are only 2-3 inches off the ground when they pop, or in the case of the pealing, on the ground already. their also not growing at an abnormal pace either. Plant seems healthy, doesn't wilt much.
