I picked a male off in bloom a few day's ago and thought that it was extra large 9" Diameter and all the rest are of similiar size. I'm hoping this is a good sign as my plant only creeps along. So what was your largest?

How do I know if I need to water and when? Wondering if this should be daily once pumpkins are growing and set? What about fertilizing with what and how often. Newbe

when and how much to water is a risky guess. if your soil drains well like ours then you will need during a dry summer to water every other day if on the other hand your soil does not drain well and is of heavy clay type you will need to water much less dig down into the soil a couple inches and make a ball out of the soil if it holds together in your hamd your ok if it falls apart in your hand get the hose out for a new grower id reccommend a once a week plant watering or soil drenching with a water soluable fish and kelp fertalizer.add humic acid as well. in august apply organic 0-0-50 as directed every two weeks pap

Thats funny, this moring I wondered the same thing. Could a larger male flower possibly contain better pollen, or better genectically based pollen grains . After all every grain is somewhat a little genetically different, arnt they? Look at the difference in 4 vs. 5 & 6 lobers. Could the same be true for males? I try to use the best looking males possible.
