I’m I the only one that doesn’t understand the hype about whether it is light or heavy to the OTT chart. Don’t get me wrong the OTT is a wonderful measuring tool. However, I do wonder about some of the final posted accuracy of the measurements. What type of control is used during these measurements? Should each weigh off site also do an OTT measurement? Do we know for a fact that denser fruit always better? Has there been a study done on what percentage of pumpkins that split are light or heavy. What are your thoughts?

if a pumpkin is measured correctly the charts that have been developed over the years are quite accurate . representing an average after study im sure. the big deal about a pumpkin weighing over the chart pumpkins is if you are competing for a prize based on weight you would rather grow a seed stock that has consistantly weighed more than it was expected to yes some people dont really measure correctly so any number written down could give a false indicator. you will find the experienced growers will be accurate and there measurements are true. they also measure in the same spot each time. not a different area from time to time.
