anyone ever have a similar situation? main vine pitched up and cracked a bit, so i terminated the vine at the pumpkin node. I was hoping to use this female, but won't if this is going to give me problems eventually.

I have a question growing a pumpkin with no main after it does that alter the size? As for the crack my experience with cracks and the size I would say no difference especially since it doesnt look too close to the stem. Dave

Nice crack Andy!
I would just patch it up, with a little fungicide paste and hope for the best. You may think of pollinating another on a secondary, just in case.

I'll probably add a little captan, but it's not really the open wound that i'm worried about. I just hope it doesn't become a major problem when the pumpkin gets over 500#, or if it's in a spot that could actually slow the growth.
Dave - I've grown a lot where I terminated the main at the fruit. My biggest last year was grown that way. I wouldn't recommend it in all situations, but it makes it a LOT easier to deal with vine stress.

LMAOOOOOOOOO!!! @ check out my crack!!!!! Ha!
Andy, I have the exact same thing as you going on, exact same spot, Ill get a picture of it and send it to ya. I think if we put some deconil on it (straight from the bottle) and let it dry up it should have a nice big gnarly not there when it heals,,, Maybe?

Andy, I noticed on my "crack" Ha!, that is on the main and right infront of the stem that the crack is moving down some and out of the way as the main is growing out. Looks like if I was to grow this pumpkin the crack will be down the vine and further out and not in that middle junction area of where the stem meets the vine(where the crack first started). You know what I mean? I know what i want to say but cant type it right,LOL!
