We have one plant that seems to only want to throw 3 lobe females on the main vine. We skipped the first one at about 12 feet. This morning we had another at about 16 feet. I pollinated it. There seems to be lots of 4 & 5 lobe female flowers on the side vines.
Has any one had this problem before?
Does anyone have any suggestions?
What is the largest pumpkin grown on a 3 lobe flower?

I just scanned the AGGC for lobe counts. Of the 1000+ Pounders where lobe count was available, none has 3 lobes. Most had 5, many had 4 & a few had 6.

Setting further out on the vine is OK. 12 feet is probably the minimum for many growers. Generally there is no maximum other than folks wanting to set a fruit as early in the year as possible.
