I had no idea that these gourds matured so fast, I stareted them about same time I started my pumpkins.
Ill have a few gourds ready from this plant in the next week!(wayyy to early!@!). Whens the best time to plant the Baby Boos? Reason I ask is because I heard if left on the vine to long they turn yellow. Its the first time growing these type gourds. Shannon you there?

yep baby boos are very fast maturing..the will keep producing lots of little white pumpkins if the plant stays healthy. They will turn yellow, same with cotton candy's.

If I remember, with mine I picked them and bleached them, applied some captan to the stems, and stored them downstairs. I think I started them either in April or May. Some did start to turn yellowish

Thanks Shannon, Tac, I think next year planting these as late as July 1st I still ought to be well in the time frame of harvesting these gourds. My other gourds I just leave on the vine until late sept or early Oct, they last a real long time on the vine, and even off the vine. I still have gourds from last year in my basement that are still as good as the day I picked em last year. I gotta get em in the barn to dry out faster. Seems they dry out allot faster when kept dry outside(in barn or shed) when in the elements

Most commercial 'halloween/fall' harvest kin/squash/gourd growers - will wait until June/July to plant. Granted, this is dependant on the length of your growing season...

Just sowed my Big Max last week.... But already have ornamental squash growing/producing...

Now Baby Boo's Last forever once picked. The are sold as mini pumpkins, but I think they are more like a gourd. Wash them, Dip them in a 10:1 bleach solution, and keep in a cool dry place. We normally plant six plants of each small ornametal and get 1/2 a shed full..:)
