Last year I used wooden clothes pins. I'm looking for another alternative. Any suggestions?

Bread ties Doug,I twist a couple together to make em longer. I use to use cloths pins up until a flower that opened popped one off, haven't used them since then.

Or those little footies they have at women
s shoe stores. Same nylon 'pantyhose' material but just the right size for covering a flower...

Last year used some styrofoam cups with cheese cloth in the bottom to deter crawlies, then after pollination tied shut with a cable tie, and back on with the cup, it did keep the moisture off of the flower which is important too.....this year Im going to try to nylons.....no comments LongBeard....

I just put a bucket over them and move dirt around the bottom so nothing flies under it. Then they can open as they normally would. For males, I cut them and put in a vase the night before.

Tool (the mesh cloth stuff that makes a prom dress poof out) from the local fabric or craft store. It's cheap. I secure it with yarn or rubber band.

i use these nylon mesh drawstring baggies that i got from a well-known grower a few years ago. THEY don't make them anymore, but i do intend to go to a fabric/sewing store and get more of that material, the kind they use at wedding reception tables where they are filled with candy and mints. yum! anyway, the other preferred method is the
"footies" from the ladies' shoe store;
just the flower petals themselves before opening provide a snug fit here in La Fayette, NY, lol---eric g

zip lock baggies are the way to go. zip em right up to the stem. also use the night before to cover males. cups can be blown off in the night and bees can crawl right on up the stem into a flower. to close after pollination i use string.

Thanks everyone! I felt a little funny buying 16 pairs of women's knee-high nylons, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

doug i use twist ties that i get from the produce area of grocery store. aftr pollinating I take the one off the male and twist them both together to hold the female shut. when it is going to rain also put a baggie over them. I have found here that closing baggies tight will cause moistue problems if you allow the sun to shine on it.
