I accidently broke the tip of my main vine.
There is already a pumpkin on it. Pumpkin 13 feet out. There is 4 feet of main past the pumpkin.
Can you imagine my thoughts when this happened?
How did I do it????? Just slap me real hardddd. I was routing my vine on a curve for my pumpkin and I barely pulled the end of the vine and SNAP.
Now what??????? I have already trimmed the secondaries that were close to the pumpkin so they wouldnt get in the way. I haven't looked yet but I dont think I have anymore secondaries past the pumpkin. I'll have to go look.

Measured: the main broke 5 feet out from the pumpkin.
There is a secondary 6 inches away from the pumpkin that I forgot to trim. Then there is a secondary 2.5 feet out, 3.5 feet out and 4.5 feet out.
So I will only have 3 secondaries past the pumpkin.

The secondaries past the pumpkin dont do much do they?
Should I put cheese cloth on the tip to keep the bugs out?

Hi,
I would just bury the tip where it broke. Some people terminate the main after the pumpkin sets that they want to keep or you could train the secondary closes to the break as your new main. It is just up to you, some people do it one way and some to it another. One thing to consider is if you terminate the main and the secondaries and you lose you pumpkin you will not be able to set another.

Crickets,
I wouldn't worry too mach about a broken main past the pumpkin. You can train one of the secondaries past the pumpkin, as the new main, or you can just let all the secondaries grow awhile, and terminate them(or three) of them) after they get a certain length. Some growers like to keep some vine growth growing past the pumpkin, until harvest. Some growers even terminate the main(and all vine growth) after the "keeper" pumpkin.

Thank you for the information. I couldn't find anything in my books about growing past the pumpkin. Or I over looked it.
