A bad storm rolled in today and heavily damaged my plants. The day after I removed my wind barriers, go figure.
One of my plants has a 6" split along the vine about 7 feet out with 6 feet of plant after it. Should I hack it off and train the secondary behind the split as the main or bandage it up and hope for the best? And if I am to bandage it, what would be the most effective method?
Thank you for your help!

Also, should stalks that have a split in them be removed?

If the split is length wise along the main, it will likely be ok. I would apply some powdered fungicide, i.e. Captan, Benlate or sulfur and keep it dry. It may heal over. We had one do this a couple years ago and it produced Brian's 518 est., before it went down to a rotten blossom end.
When you sat "stalks" are you referring to leaves? If they are broken over you may wish to remove them as the crease is across the stem and the leaf will be of little value. Some folks have had good results "propping" up broken leaf stalks with bamboo sticks. If you have secondaries that ate split length wise, the same applies as to the main.
The root cause of this damage was the wind, but ultimately, you didn’t have the plant anchored properly.

A lengthwise split is fine... like countykid said, keep it dry. It should heal and will look like a big beige scab on the vine.
