Temps been hitting pretty hot, what temp do they burn at? I think about 100 but not sure and am going away for a week and not sure to shade the tips or not given the really fast growth right now.

Some of the newer leaves have been burned on the edges with no permanent damage to the vine. Last year I lost the vine tip to burning and want to avoid that. What are people's tips and tricks?

Thanks

shade them to be on the safe side and give an extra large drink before you go. Each plant burns at different temps but I think it is also related to UV index

A real dry intense heat can fry them off at 92-95 depending on certian things. Shade cloth helps but misting would help to. I think good root growth at the nodes is key to keep the tips alive. More roots closer to the tips to help wick water up through the plant. The tips are the furthest and most tender tissue so when push comes to shove the plant prunes its self as a survival method. You may consider keeping a couple plants smaller...

that main vine tip will grow 6 to 7 ft in a week. you will need a large shade cover

Mr. T has got the idea but there is one more thing: humidity. This is a factor. Excessively low or high humidity causes issues with the leave's own natural cooling.

Tip: shade the tip.

I had the tips burn out of most of our plants in 2005 duing a heat wave, the third week of June. Anything over 32C (90F) is a concern. We hit those temps here the last two days but no dammage that I can see. I shaded the tip on the two fastest growing vines. We use our hoop house PVC (and blue tarp)and just leap frog them as the vine grows.
