This is on the same line kinda as Eddy's plants but I noticed today that everyone of my 15 plants out of 17 now have a females on the end of the main vine, also all my small gourd plants and small pumpkin plants has females at the tip aswell, what gets me is that all these females are on plants no matter what size the plants vines are. I have 4 different plants with females at about 3 feet out while the others are showing females at the regular 10 to 6 feet out. What do you think makes these females all show up at the same time on diffrent plants is what has me baffled, you think its temperature? Has to be right?

Fish, seaweed and kelp is all that I have been using.Any theory's?

Brooks, I asked my wife this question and she looked at me like I was nuts!! When I probed a little further for more details, I was advised that your plants are at obviously at a certain special time of the month and you should know that by now!!

Do you have ground themometers, because I sure would love to know what your ground temp is, and I'd guess it's between 74 and 76 degrees.
As an update on my plants, I turned all the heating cables down to between 70 and 72 and now my plants are throwing both females and males.
I've heard of this stuff in nature with animals, so maybe it also happens with plants.
I started 4 plants last week as an experiment to test the temp. theory, I will plant them in unheated ground and I want to see if I can get them to produce females by watering with warm water.

Ill check it eddy, how deep are you sticking the thermometer in the ground, about 3 inches? And also what kind of temperature differences are you getting with in 3 to 5 inches or so apart when your taking your readings? I bet its not that much difference until you hit the 10 inch depth is it?

Id say it has to do with temperature Eddy, its gotta be, I have two separate 5000sq ft patches that are a good ways from each other and they are all producing females.

My thermometers are 8 inches deep, Now that should get a few comments from the hecklers LOL I would think that the top 3 to 5 can be influenced too much by sun, and water.
