Buddy: I hope you don't mind but Shelley from Greene Saver shared with me your e-mail address. My name is Norma Kline and I am the chairperson of the Pumpkin festival. we sure appreciated your participation in the festival last year. when I read the article in the paper that you share your seeds, I got to thinking. And that ,by the way, is dangerous. What do you do with the pumpkin after the festival? The pumpkin isn't good for eating is it? Do you just get the seeds for more pumpkins, or what? I had an idea and wanted to get your input on it. What would be the possibility of having a pumpkin demolition the last day of the festival? We are having this for 2 days this year and thought it would be great to display the pumpkins so more people could see them this year and then if you are interesed in just selling the seeds ; we could have with your or whomevers okay a demolition to make some money for the festival and you could then sell your seeds. It seems that demolition anything seems to bring people out and if we provided the sledge hammers or whatever it takes to open the pumpkin and have people take just so many swings for ????$ it might be fun ; and we could split the profits or whatever. Our organization is trying to get revived from several years of decline in memberships , due to lack of volunteerism . We are the Civic Organization for Community Outgrowth and do revitalization in the community of Rice's Landing so we are always thinking of ways to make a buck. How do you feel about the suggestion? Kindly get back to me asap. NK
Im not sure!!

Raise a 500+ pounder about 100' with a crane. Drop it on a car. That usually get's folks out.
Let the highest bidder flip the "drop switch". Sell "guess the number of seeds" chances.

Spend all summer nurturing a giant fruit to watch local yokels sledgehammer it to death?. I think not.

Buddy it's YOUR fruit,,do with it as you please,,fundraisers are a noble effort. At that point of the season all you really want is the seeds. If they want the fruit to use however they choose just make arraignments for getting them and sit back and enjoy the fun !
The Fest here has a 100' drop with a fruit (usually dmg) that the crowd loves every year. The seed scramble after the drop is hilarious.

I don't think I could just sit there and let any moron sledgehammer what I spent months growing. Isn't there anything more dignified you can do? I vote for the big pumpkin drop and seed scramble. That sounds like fun.

Dan's right the seed scramble is fun to watch after the pumpkin hits the ground. The funny part is that the kids don't know that we dig the seeds out of the pumpkin before it gets dropped! But anyway, a demolition sounds fun, I'm sure it could be turned into a money raising event of some sort, IF that's what you want to do with your fruit.
