Ok Guys, I got a question and hopefully one of our postal guys can come in here and explain. I went to the post office today with the normal bubblepack. I know postal rates went up, so I didnt exactly know what to expect. The woman at the desk charged me 1.13 for an under 1 ounce bubble. This is the regular 6x9 bubble pack. Can this not still be shipped for 41¢ plus the 17¢ non machineable surcharge?
If this $1.13 is the case our rates more than doubled from 53¢ to $1.13. That just doesnt seem to be fair to me.

That seems to be an awfully large price increase! And I thought it was just .02?!

Postal rates when it comes to larger "envelopes" now deal with the dimensions of the envelope too. If you mail a regular business size envelope it will be .41. If you mail the same sheet of paper in an 8 x 11 style envelope it will cost more do to it's dimensions. So to answer the main question, yes, bubble packs will cost more because of outer dimensions.

Tom it has to do with the thickness of the envelope. I sent a bubble out a week or so ago and it cost me $1.13 too. So I asked the clerk why she said it was because of the thickness of the bubble. It was a 5 x 9 bubble.

Now there is 3 different rates for the old 2 oz letter. 57 if it's letter size and thinner than 1/4 inch. 98 if it's a large envelope but under 3/4 inch thick. 1.30 if it's more than 3/4inch thick. you can thank (W) for the extra tax called the postal reform bill>

I dont have a problem with paying a few extra cents for a package, but more than double?
I may be underestimating how many bubbles growers exchange every year, but at 60 cents more each package we are employing a few extra postal workers.
if we send packages with only one side of bubble, I bet they would be less than 1/4 inch thick. I will just buy the 5x7 envelopes cut a bunch of bubbles up and slip one side in the envelope if this is the case.

It has been a long time since I have used UPS or other type services but now wonder how their rates now compare to the postal service. Frank

Tom, I'm not sure if I'm following you or not, you mean cut the bubble part out of the bubble envelope and stick it in a normal envelope? The way I'm reading it is that your bubble will only have one side of protection for the seeds and the other side of the envelope will just be paper. I know you mean different but my Dumb Az is not understanding. If its gonna save me money Ill do the same thing you are. I know you send out twice as many bubbles as me and I can see how this would put a dent in your college funds, and this would also put a dent in my wives funds(which isn't such a bad idea for her)LOL
Thanks Tom, Brooks

How many seeds do you put in your bubble?
Just cut the bubble in half, and tape over the ends to seal the two 5 x 3.5 bubbles.
I've been sent bubbles like this, and one only needed a regular first class stamp.
The trouble with bubbles.

I don't complain about the USPS. They are the ONLY branch of government that operates in a positive cash flow. Let's see a commercial carrier (FedEx, UPS, etc) carry the mail for the price the USPS does. For that low cost they also happen to be very reliable considering the millions of parcels they carry every day.
Tom - just raise the shipping charges. No one can lodge a valid complaint unless they can do it better or for less.

this thread is hilarious.
so we are allowed or not allowed to whine?
ok i just have to share: the best is, i've owned my house for 2 years now and my college keeps getting things they send to me returned marked "no such address". this has happened 4 times in the last month. they keep calling me saying "TELL US WHAT YOUR REAL ADDRESS IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". and i say "THAT IS MY ADDRESS". in the mean time i do get mail to me, plus still at least 6 other people's mail. LOL.
that was not a whine, just a funny.
oh yeah once i daily got mail to someone on hills and dales road and i live on high mill. i'd say 10 letters in 1 week. all with cash in them. weird!!
