is overhead watering the major cause of powdery mildew i have watermelon plants in my pumpkin patch also and they really seem to be thriving from the watering but have also found 2 pumpkin leaves with the mildew

Overhead watering may worsen PM but it doesn't cause it. Airborne spores travel all over the world to find us. There is NO WAY to avoid PM once the three legs of the disease triangle arrive.

Environment & Pathogen are inevitable. Removing the host is a lousy option so protection for the host is NOT an option.

I only overhead water and have a couple 1000 lbers under my belt. Try not to leave the leaves wet over night.

overhead watering spreads disease, some people can get away with it and it doesn't give them a proublem some of us like my self can't get away with it.

I use mini sprinklers, work great from dripworks. I have grown primarily with over head watering. I also grew a couple plants for fun without over head on the side, and there was no difference in the PM for me either way.

I always get PM when I water overhead after 4 in the afternoon. It depends on the placement of your patch NSEW or what kind of shade is on the patch and what time of day. I never, never can water after 4 PM. My patch is shaded after 4 pm.

we water over the top early on ( may-first couple weeks in june ) after that we water underneath as much as possible.-morning and /or mid day not at night

do mist on the real hot 90 degree and over days a couple times a day if possible
