A liitle old lady told me that I need to put the tips of the pumpkin vines in a bowl of sugar water. She said it will really make a pumpkin grow! Besides this and using milk around the stump, what are some other "secrets" or growing folklore people have heard about or are currently using?

Milk sprayed on the leaves does control Powdery Mildew so there may be a hint oftruth to some wive's tales.

Wive's tale: Slit the vine, place lamp wicking into the slit with the other end in a bowl of sugar water.

Music makes plants grow better. Actually, there was a univeristy study that suprisingly showed plants prefer heavy metal to classical, easy listening, or country (or silence). I don't remember the type of plant, and I declined the share the info with my husband.
