If you're referring to the side-to-side and end-to-end measurements, either one can be a larger measurement.

as the pumpkin is laying on the ground top to bottom completly around it measures 57 inches is this an accurate measurment for the circumfrence chart

Bo, if you got to the "How To" section on this site, there is a link for measuring your pumpkin. Here is what it states for measuring circ...

"The Circumference measurement MUST be the LARGEST circumference taken around the fruit near the Stem and Blossom point. It will not always be parallel to the ground. It may be above or below the stem and above or below the blossom point."

BO all the measurement stuff is part of the game...not real important :)it doesn't matter what the measure is until you cut them off for the weigh off.

I am Joking please don't take me serious. Measurements are a way of recording benchmarks. They also allow you to tell when things have stopped.

The circumference measurement is taken...starting at the stem and going around the blossom end, and returning to where you started at the stem. Not ground to sky. A much more accurate measurement method is called OTT...it includes circ measurement as described, plus ground to ground from side to side, and ground to ground from front to rear....add all 3 together and look it up on the OTT chart...OTT stands for Over The Top, I think. Try doing a search here for OTT, and see if it brings you to the chart for OTT?? Peace, Wayne
