Along Brook's line from an earlier thread...we have read what each thinks will grow and bring in...NOW who and what weight will bring in the biggest?? I'll give everyone 2 shots at guesing My Guess....either?? OH boy this will be tough....?? Jack Larue..long time coming for this great grower...at mid 1400# ...OR.. Larry Checkon takes back his World record with a fruit that doesn't weigh in 20 plus percent light and tips the scales in the mid 1500's

Quinn's 985 will be the winner this year at 1517 pounds. When I saw that cross at the OVGPG seminar in February, I just HAD to have that seed. Unfortunately, my attempt at growing it this year failed. I have two more and will try again next year.

Quinn is due. 1545 which I arrived at by simple math. 1446 was beat by the 1469 in 2005 which was a difference of 23 pounds. 1469 was beat by the 1502 in 2006 which was a difference of 33 pounds. So, continuing on this trend the record should be 1545 this year beating the 1502 by 43 pounds. Could also be Jack La Rue who breaks the record.

well you can never count out Dick & Ron of course. but if your not going to bet on the chalk.and you can never count out Larry & Gerry. than you have Jack Larue,Quinn Werner,Joe Pukos just to name a very ,very few.
judging by the way the redsox ae playing the heaviest pumpkin should come out New England.
but my pick Joe Pukos(Yankees) in big upset at the scales!! 1533lbs of dark orange great shape and thick as brick pumpkin!

Jack LaRue seems to be the man to watch. With good weather, I'm sure he could grow something around 1550. There's a very good chance that it could come from a 1446/1420 cross. Quinn Werner could top 1500 too, esspecially if none of his stumps rot this year.

CARLSON........Do we win anything if we guess the weight, how about a handful of seeds from your biggest pumpkin,,,or better yet we will turn this into a yearly invent, the possibilities are endless,,,,the winner gets seeds from that winning pumpkin,,lets see all hands in favor.

Way to many very very good hard working heavy weights out there to pick just one.i agree we would all for one reason or another like a certain person to win it all. especially someone you know is deservinG.
At least twenty growers come to mind. personally id be happy for any one of them.
Nothing and i mean nothing, can ever replace the excitment and emotions when your pumpkins weight even shocks you.
Thats what happend in both instances with Rons 1502 and my 1450 last year.
We dont pre-weigh and we dont hedge on weighoffs so to go in just asking to weigh what you tape and to have that happen is something i can carry with me the rest of my life.
My best to all of you that have paid your sues and are still waiting for your own personal goals to be reached

Dan if I remeber right it is Carlson and Foss or was it Foss and Carlson 1561 & 1531. I wish the best season and personal best to all growers and fun at all the weigh offs. Time for the midwest to stand up and be counted.

I agree with Bill Foss that the Midwest could produce this year's record, and that he and Dan Carlson are the favorites. I wouldn't count out the Trumm family. They have been growing some real huge pumpkins the past few years.

I agree, midwesterners should be right up there. I have heard for years, from east & west coaster, lets not drive, the only thing to see is farm land, in other words, us middle american's are looked at as fly over land, I'm going to be that pumpkin grower when the coastal people fly over say "look, next to the world's largest ball of twine, it's fogsurfer's world biggest pumpkin" huh huh huh.

It has been an unusually warm May in Oregon. We had an unusually warm pring in 2003 and Steve Daletas grew his 1385 WR. He also took the year off last year, so that soil could grow a very big one. He gets my vote.
