Check out my diary posting under tonkathedog 5-31-07. It shows a picture of the very first two true leaves of my pumpkin and something is definately wrong. I can't tell if it is a deficiency of some kind or a seed-borne virus. Can someone help?

I'd say that it looks like sunburn to me.

It also looks to me like sunburn on the outside edges of your leaf. Not sure about the center of the leaf. Did you spray anything on the leaves? (ferts or pesticide) I had one leaf on one of my plants look something like yours but not to that extent. It appeared when we had that warm stretch a few weeks back.

dont know if plants that young could contract MOSAIC VIRUS. to much of something.as to not enough of something, id say. what did you give it? DID you soak the seeds in proxide to clean them?

I did NOT soak the seeds, they were ordered via internet. I had not sprayed before the photo, only miracle grow fert. The seed was planted in potting soil so I thought that would be as balanced nutrient-wise as possible. Looks to me like too much or not enough of something....but what?

i think it would be too hard to diagnose one leaf. can you post a pic of the whole plant and how long has it been in the ground outside.

That dosen't look like potting soil to me, it looks like grass. Grass in my patch is a weed! Have you treated your lawn with anything? Terry

I removed two leaves that were most affected. I photographed them against my lawn for contrast so that is what you see in the background. The rest of the plant is coming along and I have posted a couple of pictures for you to look at. At this point I am thinking too much water or nutrient deficiency. Perhaps one because of the other. I am going to let it dry out for a while and see what happens. But notice the pale ring around the edge of the remaining leaves. Probably the remains of the initial problem. I am not out of the woods yet and have a couple of plants as backup if I need to abort.

Sorry, my mistake, but it looks a lot better now that you've photographed it in soil. Could've been a germination problem or transplant shock, I agree with RDY, looks like it should grow out of it. terry

I'll post another picture for you guys to look at because now it looks like the thing has a double vine. What does one do about that?
