Everything in my garden has curled up leaves(even the weeds!!) Some things have completely quit growing and look like death is near(especially tomatoes and peppers). The only thing that looks good are the carrots. I sprayed my yard with 24-D about 2 weeks before I planted a garden. Can 24-D hang around that long? I was told that 24-D can rise and move with the wind on a hot day. If this is from 24-D, can the plants bounce back or are they done for? Thank you very much!! Kevin

i really think you may have a problem but not with the 2-4-d- it is a broad leaf herbicide with a little risidule unless you sprayed really close and the wind are a strong breeze was blowing i don't think that is the problem if either of the 2 is true there to my knowledge is no saving them check to see if the thinner blade grasses are alive if so you got to close are there was wind in that direction

Only the ESTER form of 2,4-D can "gas-off" or volatilize in warm weather. The more common AMINE form of 2,4-D cannot do this regardless of temperature.

Either way, 2,4-D cannot suddenly gas-off or effect your plants 2 weeks after application unless the same sprayer was used & a trace quantity is still in the sprayer.

Was the garden sprayed with something recently? Is it possible the same sprayer was used? Same measuring cup maybe?

Kevin, could it be something left in the sprayer from last year's spraying & not cleaned out well enough? Maybe a neighbour was spraying something on a windy day as well? You could maybe try giving them a good rinsing of fresh water to see if that helps. I sure hope they come back for you.

Kevin check your soil temps, unless you had soil cables and a hoop this will happen on your tomatoes peppers and watermelon plants. We had days in the 80s and low 90s a few weeks back but the soil was still cool and the plants just sat there and turned yellow and curled and did not grow at all. When I took the hoops down on the ones that were looking great the same thing happened to them, curled and stopped growing for 2 weeks and looked sick. The soil is warming up here now and things are taking off.

2-4-D can stay in the soil for up to 2 months from the reading I've done. If you sprayed it directly on the garden it's probably not good.

I accidentally sprayed this on one of my pumpking plants this year and thankfully got it off soon enough to not hurt it TOO bad. It did set it back though.

few years back, I sprayed 24D and a month later it affected my pumpkin plants 50 ft away.

I sprayed the yard, not the garden. No spray at all has been applied to the garden. I sprayed the yard mid April, on a day with absolutely no wind. Nothing was even planted in the garden at that time. I have no neighbors near by. The fields near me are farmed by me with no spray applied yet this year. I dont think it is weather related, because within the same row of plants, some plants are not affected and some are curled up to the point of death. Some of my giants are affected to but are still growwing. Should I give up this year and let the soil rest? Thank you for all the comments! Good luck to everyone!! Kevin
