Bo,
You need to put a curve in the vine and have the fruit on the outside of the curve. This will give you some slack for when the fruit grows. And it will keep the shoulders of the pumpkin from breaking itself off the vine as it gets big.
Grow em big bo,
Doug

Leaves and secondary next to pkn need to go, curve w/ pkn on outside is correct...I think what spot said was a joke!!! Gotta watch for the jokers round here!!!! Grow em big!!! Peace, Wayne

Hey Bo,
Look here on the main menu on the front page of Big pumpkins under the how to section, http://bigpumpkins.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=60 It will show you how to do it . I do it a little different but this is probably better.

I would just like to call spottedcat out on the carpet here. You seem to have an issue with me. That is fine. I happened to notice B0 69 has a nice pumpkin going with it sitting on a vine that is going to become an issue in the future. I have seen many growers lose their pumpkin do to stems breaking away from the vines. When this pumpkin gets 800lbs and the pumpkin shouldrs have expanded so much. You will see the issue.

Hey spottedcat, how long have you been growing ags??? Do you have enough experience to make a comment to shannon on what he said?? If you had any you would know that his advice is the correct method to do before he has problems later down the line with the pumpkin and or vine...

Holy Cats... Shannon takes out another smartass.. Do you think this spotted Kittycat is another of those 15 and under crowd that Shannon promises to ban once he is elected???

5/30/2007 3:50:49 PM

Tremor

I wouldn't ban anyone. But this speaks to a credibility ranking system that is very popular at other forums. Here at BP we rely on the words of others until Newbs figure out who we all are & how we can help.

Shannon has my vote for the most helpful & accurate person here at BP.

Perhaps the New President will implement Tremor's suggestion and show that he is a truly compassionate and understanding leader!! How does this credibility system work anyhow? Tremor for Vice President!!!

BO, here is some more advice. Find something else to go underneath the pumpkin. I would be worried about those holes and grooves in the siding. Maybe make a bed of sand on top of the siding.
