In Flanders' Fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders' Fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders' Fields.
- Colonel John McCrae 1915
Let us live a life worthy of their sacrifice.
Only two men have ever offered their lives for most of us. Jesus Christ & the American soldier.
God Bless them all.

Fellow growers, please take the time on Monday to attend a service at your local cemetery. Over the past several years, I am afraid that the younger generation views Memorial Day as a day to go boating, fishing etc. instead of remembering what the day is really for. Frank of Iowa

The younger generation need only to take a trip to Washington DC, Arlington and all the War Memorial's, it will give them a tue reality check into what Memorial Day is really for.

Changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier is one of the most awe-inspiring moments I've experienced in my 37 years. It really makes you think of what all our soldiers do for us. I suggest anyone who has a chance to see this, do so. You will never forget it.

We are free to pursue our growing hobbies because of the sacrifice of those who laid down their lives to allow us to remain free.
Let us always remember our friends from all over the world who also paid with their lives for our freedom, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand and countless others.
God Bless those who paved the way for us.

At the Butler Museum of American Art in Youngstown Ohio they have a painting in their collection named "Flanders Field" it is a picture of a mother and two little girls in a field of poppies. The painting says it all.
Thank You Vets!

Kids still learn Flanders Field in schools all across Canada. John McCrae is a very well-known Canadian hero. He didn't have to go to WWI, he volunteered even though he had already done extensive war duty during the Boer War. As a medical doctor, not married, he felt it was better for a single man like himself to do another tour of duty rather than have a family man over there. He was also an artist(great pencil sketches) and wrote several other poems while over seas. He died while on active duty, but his famous poem has allowed his memory to live on.

Good point Bill...I said "American" soldier. I perhaps should have only said "soldier". It's just that Memorial Day is a US holiday which in no way takes away from our friends to the North. God Bless them all.
We had a Flag retirement ceremony last night at a Scout event. A Sikorsky employee & member of their Color Guard was there just home from his fifth tour of Iraq. I don't need to go into the details but you can imaghine the emotions. Not a dry eye.

I would like to thank all soilders and their families for the sacrifices they have made. My family and I attended the Memorial Day Service At the National Cemetary in Marietta, Georgia. It was very moving. I very glad that we went and I wish I had been going every year. Please tell the veteran and the ones in active service that you appreciate what they have done and are doing for us. Please pray for the soldiers in harms way now. May God Bless the soldiers and May God Bless out country. Doug Jn 3:16
