I have been a proud member of this site since 1999 when I was about 11 years old. I had been growing pumpkins for two years and I got a 25 pound jackolantern pumpkin in 1999. The following year I decided to try some giants after seeing a T.V. special on HGTV about giant pumpkins some guy had a 1000 pounder and I wanted to try some and see what I got. I googled giant pumpkin seeds and found this site. My first season I started too late and didn't get much, but my second season I got a 200 pounder and I've been hooked ever since. I am now 19 (not really an oldtimer, LOL) and have been growing giant pumpkins, watermelons, squash etc.... for about 8 years. I have always been able to refer to this site and the kind people here for information about giant pumpkins and other vegetables. I will deffinitly continue to grow giants in the years to come. I am just curious to see if there's anyone still out there that has been with the site for five years or more. If so please state how long you have been growing giant pumpkins, what got you interested in giants, and anything else you would like to add. Anyone that hasn't been with the site for five years or more is still welcome to participate in this thread also. I just thought this thread would be a fun begginning of the season activity to try. I can't wait to transplant my seedling to the patch next week! Thank You everyone for all of your help. Sincerly, Junior

I been growing for approximately 5 years, been on this site around 5 years I think.
In my spare time I enjoy crocheting slippers and knee high socks, I also enjoy walks barefoot in the winter time down any old logging road through a fresh blanket of snow that has just fell. I also play bingo on Thursday nights and volunteer my time on Friday night for the Womens Club nursing home. Im the guy who calls the numbers for Bingo.( They think my voice is sexy.)

Same as pap here. I starting growing before you were born, when 700 lbs had not yet been achieved by anybody.

Hi Junior, I have been growing since 1998. The Lord blessed us with the Georgia State reord in 2003 of 698. Then we got two more over 600 in 2004 and have not had much luck the last few years. When we started everyone was using the mallorn list to stay in touch. Then we starting using Big Pumpkins a few years later. It is really good to see young people like you getting in the sport. Around our part of the country vegtable gardens are becoming a thing of the past. Many young people have never seen a garden grow. Take care and grow em big, Doug Jn. 3:16

Thank you everyone for your posts. I am very thankful that I have found this site and have been enjoying the sport of giant pumpkin/ vegetable growing for about 8 years. I wish more people my age would take an interst in the sport, but that's OK, I enjoy it and look forward to many more years of pumpkin growing. I also enjoy seeing all of the humerouse and funny posts everyone makes on the message boards. They always bring a smile to my face and make the hobby and sport of giant pumpkin growing both a fun and enjoyable experiance. Good luck to you all and thanks again for all of your help and support over the years.
Junior
P.S. My Watermelons will be planted in the patch in a day or two. I can't wait!!!
