tie horse tail hair to a bunch of seeds and leave on top of soil. crows swallow seeds and hair gets stuck in there throats choking them almost to death. they will never eat them again.

Bird netting works ok but its kindoff costly Im digging the horse tail hair idea though.

Well now, I'll tell you what doesn't work. There were a lot of crows around the apartment I lived at this spring semester. My neighbors, who often spent time inside drinking and smoking substances, decided they didn't like the crows. So they built a scarecrow. I don't know what they stuffed it with, but it leaned outside their door for about a week, before it got burned during a bonfire after copious amounts of beer consumption. I'll tell you this much, it didn't scare the crows away.

Anywho, I like the shotgun idea. The netting would work too... but time consuming depending on how many seedlings you're talking about. I wonder if owl decoys scare away crows? I know some people use them in their gardens.

Get some cheaper sorce of feed and detour them...thats the only way it will work them darn birds are smarter thaqn gophers...then again I think they are on the Axis of Evil team with the Gophers, Cucumber Beetles, Squash Vine Borers. They have a huge store of weapons of mass destruction with there Biological Warfare. You never hear them other people talking about powdery mildew or phyto.

I have had the same problem with the crows. And I have found that the natural enemy of a crow is an OWL.
Find the largest one you can find and place it in the garden and move it every day so the crows think it's real.
This will work,I have had to do it every year. I got tired of getting up before daylight and waiting for them with my SHOT GUN.......(remington SP10) that will also do the trick
if you live out in the country
People in the city frown upon the large bang going off at 4:45 in the morning.
Let me knoe if this helps!

you can try hanging some old cd's that AOL sends you, drill a hole and let them hang with some string, the flash tends to scare birds

Vader, that was a very quick answer that you gave. LOL and very effective one also :) Did you know your answer is effective on any critter that enters the garden without consent? Just a thought. Neighbors don't like it but very effective in the garden. Score for May is JD 4 critters 0

good Rootbeer, shotgun will work for just about anything. and it is the most fun. i am out in the middle of nowwheresville, so i dont worry about the neighbors.

RandyTcat, you got to make a game out of it. get yourself all camoed up and hide amoungst the brush nearby and just dare the varmints to enter.

and i am not sure how the owl decoy will work.
i do some crow hunting here and there. we put out a few crow decoys and a owl decoy and give a hollar on the crow call or play a tape on the predator caller (death cry of crow), and those crows will fly in from miles. they just fly around yellin thier heads off.

I had the same problem with the little B%&^%&&S last year as well. I ended up burying the corn seeds a litle deeper, this time they left them alone. I will try this again this year.
